This project is dedicated to the enhancement of the landscape in the Hualien Port Area, with a primary focus on revitalizing the aging port facilities and fostering the regeneration of waterfront tourism. The innovative design philosophy embraces the concept of “negative space,” expertly intertwining with the natural textures of the surrounding mountains and seas. By reserving areas for nature, the design invites visitors to slow down, engage with their environment, and savor their experiences. Moreover, the imagery of waves elegantly transforms into a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that dances across the pergolas and colonnades. In addition, the tidal rhythms inspire the creation of serene reflecting pools, which beautifully mirror the sky above, enhancing the overall ambiance. Furthermore, the influence of the Paiwan tribe's rich glass bead culture is thoughtfully integrated into the planning of multifunctional plaza clusters. Here, aging warehouses and their surrounding grounds will undergo a remarkable metamorphosis, transitioning into a vibrant new gateway for visitors from near and far to connect, explore, and immerse themselves in the unique coastal landscape. Overall, this project promises to create a captivating destination that celebrates both nature and culture.

As visitors step away from the harbor, they will be greeted by a wave-inspired canopy that casts shifting patterns of light and shadow. The double-layered white structure intertwines with the blue sky, creating a dynamic visual effect. Walking along the arched corridor, the pure white facades and expansive glass reflect the sky, seamlessly blending architecture with nature. Light and shadow dance within the space, enhanced by a mist-cooling system that provides a comfortable area for strolling and resting. The central “Tidal Mirror” pool reflects the sky and surrounding architecture, utilizing circulating seawater to function as both a playful water feature and a cooling element, echoing the rhythm of the ocean. The plaza complex is designed with symbolic meanings inspired by various “Glass Pearls.” Different spatial dimensions cater to the needs of exhibitions, recreation, and artistic exchange, revitalizing the warehouse and wharf axis into an open stage for community interaction and visitor exploration.
