About The Entry

In the heart of Kaohsiung, Timber & Light Rhythms: An UrbanForest Sanctuary reimagines urban living as a return to calm, warmth, and rhythm.

Inspired by the idea of an urban forest, this 28-ping residence transforms wood and light into a gentle architectural language. Vertical timber lines echo the presence of trees, guiding movement and shaping moments of pause, while natural light filters through layered spaces like sunlight passing through a forest canopy.

Rather than open-plan exposure, the design embraces soft boundaries—wooden screens, concealed doors, and subtle level changes create a sense of flow without sacrificing intimacy. As daylight shifts throughout the day, shadows move across timber surfaces, allowing the home to feel alive, responsive, and deeply connected to time.

Warm materials, carefully balanced lighting, and refined detailing establish a tranquil atmosphere suited to Kaohsiung’s climate and lifestyle. The interior becomes not just a place to live, but a place to slow down—where everyday routines unfold within a serene, human-scaled environment.

This project reflects the spirit of Kaohsiung Living Architecture (高雄厝): sustainable, adaptable, and rooted in local living culture. Timber & Light Rhythms stands as a contemporary sanctuary—an urban home shaped by nature, crafted through rhythm, and defined by light.
