About The Entry

The Silent Edge is a private mountain retreat conceived as a quiet architectural threshold between stone, snow, and sky. Set into a steep alpine slope, the house is not placed on the landscape as an object, but carved into it as a precise horizontal incision. Its defining gesture is a long, folded roof plane that extends from the mountain like a suspended snow shelf, sheltering a warm interior world beneath.

The design is organized along the natural contour of the ridge. From the upper approach, the house appears almost hidden: a dark stone wall, a narrow entrance, and the sharp white edge of the roof emerging from the terrain. Once inside, the compressed arrival sequence opens into a panoramic living space facing the valley. The central hearth room forms the emotional core of the retreat, where stone, timber, fire, and glass create a calm contrast to the vast winter landscape outside.

The program unfolds as a sequence of carefully framed experiences: an open living and dining area, private sleeping rooms, a spa level embedded into the rock, and a sheltered terrace that projects toward the mountain view. Large glass surfaces dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, while deep overhangs create protection, shadow, and intimacy.

The material palette is deliberately restrained. Local dark stone anchors the house into the slope, warm oak softens the interior, low-iron glass frames the surrounding peaks, and the pale metal roof gives the project its quiet sculptural identity. Rather than expressing luxury through excess, the retreat relies on proportion, atmosphere, and precision.

In winter, the roof visually merges with the snow, allowing the house to appear as a glowing line beneath the mountain surface. In summer, it becomes a crisp architectural datum against rock, meadow, and sky. The Silent Edge transforms the mountain house into an experience of stillness and tension: grounded yet weightless, protective yet open, silent yet deeply present.
