Set against the serene landscape of Hangzhou Xiaohu, “NET” is a lightweight sculptural installation crafted from white stainless steel, designed to delicately converse with nature and its observers. Positioned along the lakeside pathway, this ethereal canopy offers a spatial experience that shifts with every step, every glance, and every change in light.
The sculpture draws inspiration from traditional fishing nets—both in form and spirit—reinterpreting them as architectural poetry. When viewed from the canal’s edge, the piece appears as a rhythmic, horizontal mesh, gently echoing the surface of the water. Its geometry undulates in response to wind and light, creating a dynamic visual dialogue with the surrounding hills, water, and sky.
As visitors walk or boat beneath it, they become enveloped in a suspended world of tensioned lines—an immersive experience akin to being gently “caught” in a luminous net. The delicate mesh overhead frames views of the lake and sky, casting intricate shadows on the ground and water, drawing attention to the interplay of transparency and structure.
From above, whether from elevated viewpoints or aerial perspectives, the sculpture becomes a vast field of cellular modules—units of the “NET”—each one vibrating with tension and quiet vitality. These modules expand and contract in a coordinated choreography, revealing a harmonious balance between structure and openness, movement and stillness.
“NET” is not merely a static installation—it is a living interface between human perception and the natural environment. It invites visitors to slow down, to observe, and to become momentarily suspended in its quiet embrace. It offers shelter, reflection, and wonder, transforming the familiar landscape into a site of poetic encounter.
The use of white stainless steel ensures durability while enhancing the visual lightness of the structure. Its clean lines and porous form integrate seamlessly into the wetland context, respecting the ecological sensitivity of Xiaohu while introducing an architectural gesture that is both subtle and iconic.
“NET” aspires to be not only seen, but felt—through shadow, reflection, and the rhythm of one’s movement within it.
