The designer finished the living room walls and ceilings with expansive decorative coatings, paired with soft, evenly diffused light from PVC membranes. This gentle illumination not only highlights the rustic, plain texture of the surfaces but also cultivates a serene and elegant Wabi-Sabi atmosphere. In the corridor, the darker tones on the high ceiling and partial wood veneers introduce a sense of calm stability into the main living area. The sofa zone’s engineered hardwood flooring and the clean, parallel linear lights stretching along both the ceiling and floor lines serve to clearly define the boundary between the living zone and the passage. As a result, the living room and tatami space became a quiet, beautiful, and framed scene—offering residents a delicate, elegant, and inwardly tranquil experience.
Considering the family’s lifestyle—that the eldest son often stays in a dormitory and each member values personal space—the design team reconfigured the layout with care. Relocated the dining area adjacent to the master bedroom to the front balcony. At the same time, the original space was converted into a secondary bedroom, thereby transforming the two-bedroom layout into a three-bedroom layout. This renovation ensures that every resident enjoys a private retreat. Separating the kitchen and dining area from the bedroom zone clearly distinguishes communal and private domains, effectively minimizing noise interference and preserving restful quiet. Positioned next to the spacious front balcony, the new dining space also accommodates large family gatherings and festive barbeques, forming an open and convivial recreation zone that balances intimacy with comfort.
To create a healthier environment, the design replaces traditional oil-based enamel paint with water-based, ultra-wear-resistant finishes that contain no harmful VOCs and resist cracking over time. Their easy maintenance reduces long-term upkeep while preserving visual integrity. These are paired with non-toxic specialty coatings to ensure the home remains fresh and healthy for daily living. In the raised platform—the only area with a height difference follows ergonomic proportions, allowing residents to sit comfortably, stretch their legs, or step up without strain. This thoughtful detail reduces pressure on the knees and joints, making movement effortless.
