CLOUDSPA SANCTUARY

This project is a sanctuary of tranquility nestled within the most vibrant historic quarter of Datong—a millennium-old capital. Reimagining the traditional Siheyuan courtyard, the design draws profound inspiration from the region's unique geological heritage: the world's only volcanic cluster on the Loess Plateau. Basalt stones, hand-selected from these ancient formations, are thoughtfully integrated into private hot-spring courtyards and communal water gardens, forging a tangible, tactile connection to the earth's primordial energy. The intervention transforms the courtyard into a secluded haven where urban clamor fades into a landscape-inspired realm designed for deep, energetic restoration and healing.

The design philosophy confronts spatial constraints with an "interior-first" architectural passion. Space was sculpted from within through strategic excavations that created double-height LOFTs, the removal of non-structural walls to form flowing suites, and the bold cantilevering of living areas over reflective pools. The interior embraces a "Frontier Lodge" aesthetic, grounded by warm, reclaimed timber and seamless smart systems. The guest experience unfolds in a deliberate, tripartite spatial sequence—progressing from a serene bedroom, through a contemplative leisure area, to the ultimate private hot-spring courtyard. Each courtyard is a naturalistic microcosm, framed by panoramic glazing and featuring a sculptural tree rising from a textured carpet of moss, ferns, and native plants, with water emerging from a stone-stacked outlet as if from a mountain spring. Enhanced by flexible in-room dining, the project ultimately breathes new life, poetic resonance, and profound sensory tranquility into ancient walls.
