About The Entry

The Wordfiler® is a new interpretation of the traditional desk top file holder with which the whole world is familiar. It came about as a result of a desire to have something more user-friendly for my personal use, but which then gradually took on a life of its own. Central to the functioning of this design is the open front which allows ease of access to material stored. To keep files in situ, however, an inclined base is necessary, which in turn gives rise to the presence of an angled back to balance the design. The choice of a shape for the profile lent itself to an asymmetrical curved look, reminiscent of mid-century organic aesthetic. The development of these design aspects occurred over a number of years and culminated in the working out of a way to fold the entire structure from a single flat piece. I was then able to take the design to a local plastics factory and have the product thermo-formed by hand. A design patent was obtained in New Zealand (NZIP430907) and also a Registered Trademark: Wordfiler®
