About The Entry

How can the crisp lines of contemporary design harmoniously resonate with the warm textures of vintage objects in everyday life? In a simplistic space, the precise use of design language allows the “home” to reflect the resident’s curatorial philosophy, shaping a setting that is both modern and rich in lived warmth.

This compact residence, just 56 square metres, belongs to a photographer who has a deep appreciation for the clean aesthetics of the Bauhaus style, especially when paired with solid wood and vintage pieces. The spatial design continues the spirit of modernism through simplicity. A palette of black, gray, and warm wood tones forms the foundation, accented by unique lighting design, refined metal details, and solid wood furniture, creating a flexible environment where different objects can be freely introduced to express various moods and styles.

One of the most thoughtfully designed features is a small interior window that connects the living room and kitchen, located just behind the sofa. This openable window was inspired by the homeowner’s nostalgic fondness for old street vendors and market stalls. When opened, it reveals a charming view from the living room into the kitchen, showcasing its vintage-style tilework and forming a distinctive visual focal point in the shared living area. When closed, it preserves the space’s sense of purity and calm. More than just a physical opening, this window becomes a visual centerpiece—linking different scenes and infusing daily life with subtle delight.

The dialogue between modern and vintage aesthetics is expressed through thoughtful spatial detailing. The wabi-sabi-inspired bedroom door features an enlarged embedded metal handle, its sleek, modern metallic finish creates a striking contrast against the raw, textured surface, generating a unique sense of visual tension. Lighting, too, goes beyond its functional role. By incorporating artfully designed fixtures, the lighting becomes a sculptural element, turning blank walls into curated visual moments and reinforcing the overall stylistic narrative.
