The Wedding House is located in Mestia Municipality, Upper Svaneti, one of Georgia’s most distinguished historical and cultural landscapes. The municipality includes the community of Ushguli, which forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Upper Svaneti. This remarkable region is renowned for its iconic Svan defensive towers, medieval architecture, and breathtaking panoramas of the Greater Caucasus Mountains.
The primary source of inspiration for the project is the traditional Svan defensive tower, one of the most significant symbols of Svaneti’s cultural identity and architectural heritage. Rather than directly replicating the historic structure, the design reinterprets its essence through a contemporary architectural language, establishing a dialogue between tradition and modernity.
The Wedding House is conceived as a unique emotional destination where nature, architecture, and life’s most meaningful moments come together in a single experience. Observation terraces and panoramic viewpoints integrated into the building allow visitors to enjoy the extraordinary landscapes of Mestia and create unforgettable memories against the backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains.
The project aims to create a new architectural landmark that expresses the values of love, family, and new beginnings through contemporary architectural forms. Beyond its ceremonial function, the building serves as a place where the cultural heritage of Svaneti and modern architecture merge into a memorable and meaningful experience.
The project is being implemented at the initiative of the Public Service Hall of Georgia. Its objective is to create a space that functions simultaneously as a modern center of public services and a distinctive venue for wedding ceremonies, defined by a strong architectural identity and a close connection to its cultural context.
The Public Service Hall brings together approximately 500 public services within a single institution and operates a network of 36 Wedding Houses and ceremonial spaces throughout Georgia. Through innovative public architecture, it creates environments where citizens’ comfort, accessibility, and well-being are the highest priorities.
This project embodies that vision through a contemporary interpretation of Svaneti’s cultural heritage, particularly the architectural character of the historic Svan towers, while creating a new civic and ceremonial landmark that celebrates both local identity and modern public service.
