This project presents an immersive exploration of designing a Japanese-style bar that artfully combines simplicity, romance, and contemporary elegance. Given the owner's budget constraints, the design team strategically focused on employing understated yet powerful elements that would evoke the desired atmosphere. To achieve a cohesive theme, the team thoughtfully selected materials such as tinplate, wooden windows, rich wood grains, and twinkling string lights. These carefully chosen elements work in harmony to create an enchanting ambiance, reminiscent of traditional Japanese aesthetics while infusing a modern twist. Moreover, the layout of the bar is meticulously crafted to feature a blend of open, semi-open, and private spaces. This intentional design accommodates a wide array of guest experiences; whether someone desires a tranquil moment alone, a vibrant gathering with friends, or an intimate private event, the space is versatile enough to cater to all. Additionally, by seamlessly intertwining historical and contemporary design elements, the project not only pays homage to the cultural significance of Japanese bars but also effectively addresses the spatial limitations often found in innovative traditional concepts. In doing so, it also reduces the excessive noise levels typical of Taiwanese bars, thereby fostering a sophisticated and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Ultimately, this design offers a unique experience that invites guests to relax and connect in a beautifully curated setting.

Standing just outside the store, one will notice that the design team has meticulously crafted an understated exterior that strikingly contrasts with the romantic ambiance of the interior. This deliberate choice creates an inviting “bright after the rain” effect, enhancing the experience for visitors as they step inside. To further enrich the exterior’s visual appeal, the team incorporated wooden elements inspired by the Showa period, evoking a sense of nostalgia while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic. As guests transition into the dust-laden area, they are greeted by the warm glow of winding neon lights elegantly installed on the ceiling. These lights not only serve a functional purpose by guiding the flow of visitors but also metaphorically bridge the passage of time and space.
