Liaoyuan Middle School, Hanyang District, Wuhan

Liaoyuan Middle School is a 24-class public junior high school now taking shape in Hanyang, the birthplace of the ancient Chinese “Zhiyin” culture of musical kinship. Occupying 21 450 m² of gently sloped land between Qintai Avenue and Meigui Street, the campus is conceived as an “urban canyon” and “landscape amphitheatre” where terraces, sky-bridges and green axes weave learning, performance and nature into one continuous experience. Upon completion, the school will offer 1 080 places for local students and serve as a new civic landmark that celebrates community memory, sustainable design and the arts.
