Hidden Mountain Villa is a contemporary residential interior project inspired by Chinese landscape painting, Song-style restraint, and the spiritual relationship between architecture, nature, and daily life. Rather than creating a decorative “Chinese-style villa,” the design transforms the essence of mountains, water, light, courtyard, ritual and stillness into a modern spatial experience.
The project takes “living within an inner landscape” as its central concept. The home is organized not as a collection of luxury rooms, but as a continuous emotional journey: from a quiet entrance, to a cloud-like living hall, to a water-moon courtyard, and finally to intimate spaces for reflection, dining, tea, rest and family gathering.
The inspiration comes from the Chinese landscape philosophy of “mountains to dwell in, water to reflect upon, and emptiness to breathe through.” The design does not imitate traditional architectural motifs. Instead, it extracts the spatial wisdom behind Chinese gardens and paintings: framed views, layered thresholds, borrowed scenery, filtered light, silence, water reflection and gradual revelation.
At the heart of the villa is the Water-Moon Courtyard, a circular interior courtyard defined by a skylight, still water, natural stone and a living tree. Daylight falls through the oculus and touches the water surface, creating a changing landscape of reflection, shadow and movement. Around this courtyard, the living room, dining room, tea room and circulation spaces unfold like scenes in a landscape scroll.
