The conceptual product design, “GEOGLYPH: Meridian Massage Glove for Women's Care,” is a patented solution developed specifically for menstrual health. It is created by a team from Taiwan recognized with the 2024 Power in Nursing Award. The name draws inspiration from geoglyphs—large-scale ground markings—where “GEO” symbolizes the energy of earth and natural minerals, and “GLYPH” represents the acupoint markings on the glove, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian theory. These acupoints are interconnected to form a visualized operational system resembling geoglyph patterns, supported by structured tactile nodes for precise pressure application. The product adopts a non-electric, non-pharmaceutical physical intervention approach, integrating nursing care principles with acupressure therapy, complemented by thermally conductive mineral stones for soothing heat application to relieve menstrual discomfort. The design aims to address disparities in access to healthcare, empowering women from diverse backgrounds with a solution that combines scientific credibility, cultural wisdom, and dignity in menstrual care—demonstrating both universal value and professional integrity. The design thoughtfully addresses global socio-economic disparities through a dual-track strategy. In resource-limited regions, locally sourced sustainable textiles are adopted to ensure accessibility without cost barriers. Conversely, in economically developed contexts, the product integrates diverse skin tones and cultural art elements, transforming it into an accessory that reflects regional identity and aesthetic value. Moreover, the massage components—such as natural mineral stones—are adaptable to different usage scenarios, balancing both functionality and visual appeal. The user interface is designed with gender inclusivity and de-labeling principles, making it intuitive and easy to use. By reducing both the learning curve and psychological barriers, the design also encourages male participation, fostering greater family support and emotional engagement in women’s health care. The design concept and care model have been implemented in collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute, and have been successfully carried out across four African countries, impacting over 3,000 individuals. By reducing reliance on pharmaceuticals and integrating the promotion of reusable cloth sanitary products, the initiative effectively minimizes plastic waste and environmental burden. Moreover, the operational model adopts a social impact collaboration approach, where commercial sales revenue helps subsidize local production costs.
